Cabernet Franc aus Südafrika
Cabernet Franc - that mild Cabernet Sauvignon
The French-origin Cabernet Franc is the ancestor of Cabernet Sauvignon. Compared to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc doesn't have quite the fullness. A little milder, it is more robust, but also a little less popular. Nevertheless, it is not inferior to any wine, even if there are similarities, this grape variety has an individual taste profile with which it lends a subtle softness, especially to cuvées.
It is grown on the Loire, northern Italy, Spain and other major international wine producers, including South Africa.
Cabernet Franc in South Africa
Similar to other countries, the grapes are used there as a balance in cuvées. In South Africa there are only 18 wineries that develop this grape variety into wines. Due to the soil conditions and the maritime climate, the wine is bred to top quality. This has only been done with success since the end of the last century and performance has not diminished since then. The diversity of the grape variety has become particularly evident in recent years.
