Idiom

Idiom has embodied the Bottega family’s passion for exquisite wines in the wine region Stellenbosch, South Africa, since 1999. Picturesquely situated on the upper slopes of the Helderberg, the winery enjoys breathtaking views of False Bay and benefits from unique microclimates shaped by its proximity to the sea and the surrounding mountains. The philosophy of Idiom is to make the most of the terroir and bring out the distinctive characteristics of each grape variety.

Under the direction of cellar master Roberto Bottega , an impressive variety of grapes is grown. Alongside classic Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the portfolio also includes Pinotage and Shiraz . This diversity is reflected in the experimental yet terroir-driven wines, regularly celebrated for their personality and sense of place.

Idiom is synonymous with innovative winemaking, with every drop reflecting the dedication and expertise of the Roberto Bottega team. The wines are an expression of exceptional winemaking and embody South Africa’s rich winemaking tradition.

Semillon Grape Variety

Semillon originates in Bordeaux and produces aromatic white wines with a fine texture. Typical aromas include lemon, lime zest, yellow apple and white flowers, with developed notes of honey and wax and a hint of lanolin. Aged in stainless steel, Semillon shows a bright, citrus freshness. Fermentation and ageing in barrels bring added creaminess, spice and length. Often blended with Sauvignon Blanc, it is also intriguing as a single varietal in Stellenbosch, with excellent ageing potential.
