Leopards Leap Family Vineyards
Winery Leopard's Leap in the sun-drenched Franschhoek wine region is known for its approachable quality wines and family-friendly atmosphere. The estate combines winemaking with food, and places great importance on sustainability to preserve the natural beauty of the Cape province.
As the namesake and symbol, the critically endangered Cape leopard is featured, and its protection is actively supported. The philosophy of promoting a “worthy life” is reflected in the quality of the wines.
The main grape varieties are the fresh Chenin Blanc from South Africa and the characteristic Pinotage from South Africa.
With the Classic Pinotage 2025, Leopard’s Leap brings South Africa’s signature grape variety from the sun-drenched coastal regions of Swartland and Paarl into the glass with maximum drinkability. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed and fermented at 22 to 24 degrees with regular punch-downs – a wonderfully juicy, uncomplicated expression of Pinotage. On the nose, the Cape’s characteristic spice immediately comes through: fully ripe raspberries and juicy plums meet clove and a hint of vanilla. Responsible for this fine finish is six to eight months of aging on staves made from 70% French, 20% American and 10% Hungarian oak, providing deeply layered oak spice and aromatic density. On the palate, a wave of red berry fruit unfolds, carried by silky-soft tannins and gently balanced acidity of 5.15 g/l, with 3.65 g/l residual sugar.

Pinotage
Pinotage has a distinctive, usually full-bodied character with aromas of dark berries, plums and cherries, often complemented by spicy or earthy notes. In the glass, the red wine typically appears deep ruby red to purple. Usually moderate acidity and noticeable, depending on whether it is Aged, supple to pronounced tannin give the fruit structure and length.
Its most important home is South Africa, particularly regions such as Stellenbosch, Paarl and Swartland. Styles range from juicy, fruit-driven and approachable wines to concentrated, full-bodied versions with ageing potential. Aged in wood, it can develop toasted aromas as well as hints of coffee, cocoa or smoke; however, these do not define every Pinotage.
Fruit-forward examples tend to be more direct and lively, while more powerfully matured wines are denser and spicier. They pair well with pan-fried or grilled meat, hearty vegetable dishes and mature cheese.
