Avondale Wine Estate
Winery Avondale, set within the majestic backdrop of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, stands as a shining example of sustainable farming. Under the expert guidance of cellar master Corne Kruger , the winery is cultivated in harmony with the natural rhythms, using biodynamic methods that promote a deep sense of harmony between soil, vine, and the entire ecosystem.
The winery offers an impressive selection of elegant wines. These include the distinctive Chenin Blanc, expressive Syrah and expertly composed cuvées, all of which reflect the vibrancy of this unique Franschhoek-terroir.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The Camissa 2025 from the Winery Avondale entices the nose with fine floral notes of rose petals and scented geraniums, underscored by fresh red fruits, a hint of honey and citrus. On the palate, it is lively balanced, with a fine, fresh acidity and a delicate sweetness at the start, which then transitions into a dry, elegant finish. The texture is smooth and slightly creamy, supported by precise minerality.
Composition of this Cuvée
45% Grenache, 40% Muscat de Frontignan, 15% Mourvedre
Cuvées are among the most expensive wines in the world. Bordeaux wines from France or premium wines from the Rioja wine region in Spain also count as Cuvées. Furthermore, the best champagnes in the world are usually Cuvée champagnes, consisting of the grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
Also in South Africa – especially due to the historical connection to the French wine world – outstanding Cuvées are produced.

Grenache, Muscat de Frontignan, Mourvedre
This cuvée combines fruit and body with spice and structure: Grenache often contributes red berries, ripe fruit and alcohol-driven fullness, while Mourvedre can add darker fruit notes, herbal spice, colour and tannin. Muscat de Frontignan provides an aromatic contrast with floral and grape aromas . This aromatic freshness should not be equated with high acidity; the actual acidity depends largely on the site, ripeness and winemaking.
The varieties are associated with the Mediterranean region, particularly southern France; however, this does not establish a classic origin for this combination. Stylistically, fruit-forward, floral-accented wines are just as conceivable as fuller-bodied, spicier expressions. In the glass, the cuvée may range from rosé to deep red, depending on how it is made. Sweetness and tannin profile are likewise not determined by the variety names. Depending on the style, it pairs well with vegetable dishes, poultry or spicy stews.
