Grape Variety Zinfandel
Zinfandel, known as Primitivo in Italy, produces aromatic red wines with lots of charm. Typical aromas are dark berries like Blackberry and black cherry, plus cranberry, plum, some pepper, and anise. On the palate usually medium-bodied to full-bodied, with juicy fruit, moderate acidity, and soft, ripe tannins. Short to medium oak aging adds vanilla, caramel, and fine spices without masking the freshness. In Stellenbosch, Zinfandel shows ripe fruit with good balance, often with an elegant, silky mouthfeel and a long, spicy-fruity finish.
