The Weinhof Scheu, run by Klaus Scheu, is a family business based in the Palatinate in Schweigen-Rechtenbach, with a special cross-border location. A large part of the vineyards extends into the neighboring Alsace region in France. The philosophy of the Wineryfocuses on a precise appellation and the individual character of each terroir in order to create wines of the highest quality. Klaus Scheu took over the winery in 1994 from his father
Günter Scheu . He places great value on detail-focused work in the vineyards and low yields to maximize the concentration and density of the aromas in the wines., The terroir of the Weinhof is extremely diverse and includes soils of yellow and blue clay, limestone, quartz, sandstone, chalk, and slate. These soil types are oriented differently and contribute to the wines' unique character. The vines are up to 50 years old, and varieties such as, Riesling, Pinot BlancPinot Gris
Pinot Noir
, as well as Scheurebe and Gewürztraminer, are grown. In the cellar, great importance is placed on craft precision, with both stainless steel and wooden barrels used, and fermentation takes place without time pressure. The result is expressive wines that reflect the `Terroir` of their plots, even in more challenging vintages. The Weinhof Scheu is particularly specialized in Riesling, which accounts for 33% of the cultivation area, as well as Pinot Noir, which together with other Pinot varieties makes up 50%. Around 80% of the harvest is done manually. Each year, around 100,000 bottles of wine are produced..

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
