Kleinood
The South African Winery Kleinood is located in the remote and picturesque Bot River region, where it has been guided with dedication since it was founded in 2000 by Gerard de Villiers and his family. It is Bot River region known for its cool breezes from the Atlantic, which create ideal conditions for growing grape varieties inspired by Mediterranean climates. This is reflected in wines of great elegance and freshness. Kleinood is committed to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir and the region’s diversity of species.
The vineyard management follows sustainable principles to protect and support the natural environment. The focus of the winery is on producing high-quality wines that are authentic and expressive. A special hallmark is its focus on the grape variety Shiraz.
The winery is particularly known for its Tambourine Mountain Syrah, which captures the essence of the winery and the region. These are wines made with care and respect for nature, resulting in a distinctive quality that delights both connoisseurs and first-time explorers.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The elegant Katharien Rosé 2024 is a soft pink, like a sunset against a clear sky. The nose offers a delicious blend of cherry sweetness, a lively note, and subtle hints of red pepper spice and delicate violet aromas. The first sip is dry yet full-bodied, with a fascinating texture. The finish is a symphony of flavours - from sweet cherry and allspice to refreshing watermelon, orange peel, and white peach.

Syrah
Syrah usually produces deep ruby-red to violet wines with aromas of Blackberry, dark plum and black pepper. Depending on its origin and aging, violet, smoky notes or hints of olives may also emerge. The grape variety combines dark fruit with spicy depth, usually well-integrated acidity and noticeable, often dense tannin. Its body ranges from medium-bodied to full-bodied, while its distinctive character often remains clearly spicy.
Typical regions of origin include the northern Rhône, Australia and South Africa. Cooler sites tend to favour tauter, peppery and fresher styles, while warmer locations generally produce riper fruit and more fullness. The predominantly dry wines may be made in a fruit-forward style or gain additional toasty aromas and structure from oak. In the glass, they usually appear intensely coloured and dense. They pair well with briefly seared meat, hearty vegetable dishes or mature cheese.
