Boschendal Winery
Boschendal Wine Estate
Founded in 1685, the Boschendal Wine Estate is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa. In its early history, it was cultivated by members of the Huguenot de Villiers family. Under their stewardship, Boschendal developed into a significant agricultural estate at the Cape as early as the 18th century. Today, a dedicated winemaking team leads the cellar work – a group of specialists crafting wines of international caliber. With meticulous attention to detail, a terroir-driven signature, and a strong focus on sustainability, they bring out the unique character of cooler regions such as Elgin and Helderberg. Most of Boschendal’s vineyards are planted with white grape varieties like Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, while the red wine portfolio is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Shiraz. Today, Boschendal is regarded as one of South Africa’s most prestigious wineries and remains exceptionally popular among lovers of South African wine culture.

Winemakers
The Boschendal winemaking team stands for exceptional craftsmanship, uncompromising quality, and a deep understanding of South African terroirs. Backed by more than 330 years of winemaking history, the Boschendal winemakers unite centuries-old knowledge with modern cellar techniques and a clear focus on sustainability. Every grape variety, every parcel is considered individually – from slope inclination to soil composition. Grapes are harvested selectively, often by hand, and vinified in small batches to precisely highlight the unique character of each terroir – whether from Elgin, Stellenbosch, or Helderberg. The Boschendal winemakers are seen as masters of their craft. They create wines that not only win international awards but also captivate with their elegance, complexity, and structure.
