Paarl wine region

Paarl was founded in 1690 and is the second largest industrial city in South Africa's Western Cape province after Cape Town. It is about 50 kilometers north of Cape Town and is one of the three oldest settlements in South Africa founded by Europeans.
As early as the early 1690s, the settlers realized that the fertile soil and climate were perfect for the
Fruit -, vegetables - and above all wine growing.
The town got its name Paarl (translated pearl) from the nearby rocks, which shine like pearls in certain lighting conditions.

Make

The wine town is located in the Berg River Valley, surrounded by the Drakenstein mountain range, Paarl Rock and a giant rock.
Due to its location and climatic influence, Paarl is a gold mine for the wine industry.
Paarl is best known for its fertile soil and excellent grape varieties.
Due to the special climate, a large number of good red and white wines and excellent grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc can be produced by wineries.

activities

The Red Route in the Cape Winelands is a route through the beautiful Paarl Valley with many wine tasting opportunities along the way.
Visitors with a car can simply drive off and make their own discoveries through the vineyards and the approximately 50 wineries in Paarl.
Also there on the mountain is the Afrikaans Language Monument.
The mountain and nature reserve are very popular for walks and hikes, mountain biking, picnics and their culture.
