Avondale Wine Estate
Winery Avondale, set within the majestic backdrop of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, stands as a shining example of sustainable farming. Under the expert guidance of cellar master Corne Kruger , the winery is cultivated in harmony with the natural rhythms, using biodynamic methods that promote a deep sense of harmony between soil, vine, and the entire ecosystem.
The winery offers an impressive selection of elegant wines. These include the distinctive Chenin Blanc, expressive Syrah and expertly composed cuvées, all of which reflect the vibrancy of this unique Franschhoek-terroir.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The red wine Navitas from the Avondale Winery smells intensely of dark, stewed fruits like plum and Blackberry accompanied by spice notes like cinnamon, cloves and white pepper. There is also a subtle hint of earthiness and fine minerality, reminiscent of cool, rocky soils. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, soft and elegant, with silky integrated tannins and a fine, lively freshness, which gives the wine length and depth. The finish is spicy, fruit-forward and persistent.
Composition of this Cuvée
13% Grenache, 60% Syrah and 27% Mourvedre

Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre
This cuvée combines red and dark berry fruit with pepper, herbs and earthy spice. Grenache often contributes juicy fruit, warmth and body, while Syrah and Mourvedre usually enhance colour, tannin and spicy depth. Syrah can also add freshness and tension from acidity; Mourvedre often provides a firm framework and savoury notes. Together, they produce a generally full-bodied red wine whose balance of fruit richness, acidity and tannin depends on the site and ageing.
The combination is widespread, among other places, in the southern Rhône, in other parts of southern France and in South Africa. The style ranges from juicy and approachable to dense and structured. The wine often shows a deep ruby red colour in the glass, sometimes with violet hues. With age, leather and spice notes may develop. It pairs well with quickly seared or braised meat, as well as robust vegetable dishes.
