Kleinood
The South African Winery Kleinood is located in the remote and picturesque Bot River Region, where it has been run with dedication by Gerard de Villiers and his family since its founding in 2000. The Bot River Region is known for its cool breezes from the Atlantic, which create ideal conditions for growing grape varieties inspired by Mediterranean climates. This is reflected in wines of great elegance and freshness. Kleinood is committed to producing wines that reflect the region’s unique terroir and biodiversity.
Vineyard management follows sustainable principles to protect and nurture the natural environment. The winery focuses on producing quality wines that are authentic and expressive. A particular hallmark is its specialisation in the grape variety Shiraz.
The winery is especially known for its Tambourine Mountain Syrah, which captures the essence of the winery and the region. These wines are made thoughtfully and with respect for nature, resulting in distinctive quality that delights both connoisseurs and newcomers.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The elegant Katharien Rosé 2024 is a soft pink, like a sunset against a clear sky. The nose offers a delicious blend of cherry sweetness, a lively note, and subtle hints of red pepper spice and delicate violet aromas. The first sip is dry yet full-bodied, with a fascinating texture. The finish is a symphony of flavours - from sweet cherry and allspice to refreshing watermelon, orange peel, and white peach.

Syrah
Syrah usually produces deep ruby-red to violet wines with aromas of Blackberry, dark plum and black pepper. Depending on origin and ageing, notes of violet, smoke or olive may also emerge. The grape variety combines dark fruit with spicy depth, usually well-structured acidity and noticeable, often dense tannins. Its body ranges from medium-bodied to full-bodied, while its distinctive character often remains notably spicy.
Typical growing regions include the northern Rhône, Australia and South Africa. Cooler sites tend to produce tauter, peppery and fresher styles, while warmer locations usually bring riper fruit and greater fullness. The predominantly dry wines may be made in a fruit-forward style or gain additional toasted aromas and structure from oak. In the glass, they are usually deeply coloured and concentrated. They pair well with quickly seared meat, hearty vegetable dishes or mature cheese.
