Villa Maria Estate
The story of Winery Villa Maria Estate began in 1961, when George Fistonich started making wine at the age of 21 on just two hectares of land in Mangere, Auckland. Originally planted with vines by his parents, Dalmatian immigrants Andrew and Mandica Fistonich, it became George Fistonich the driving force behind the winery. It expanded steadily and played a major role in shaping New Zealand's wine landscape.
In Marlborough in particular, Villa Maria established itself from the late 1980s as a leading producer of the renowned grape variety South African Sauvignon Blanc. Its philosophy focuses on producing a diverse range of award-winning wines, from fruit-forward discoveries to complex wines with ageing potential. The wines stand out for their vibrancy, distinctive character and delicious taste.
Villa Maria is the largest landowner in the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District and owns around a third of the official winegrowing area. From the outset, the winery has also been a sustainability pioneer: in 1995, it became the first major New Zealand winery to receive BioGro organic certification, and it has been Toitū carbonreduce certified since 2010.

Villa Maria Estate Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc is a characterful white wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes, expertly crafted by New Zealand’s Villa Maria Estate. This wine brings the maritime climate and vibrant style of the Marlborough region impressively into the glass.
On the nose, Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc impresses with intense aromas of passion fruit, lemongrass and white grapefruit, complemented by delicate notes of gooseberry and guava. On the palate, it is fresh and juicy, supported by lively acidity and a clean, citrus-driven finish that delivers both drinkability and structure.
