Boekenhoutskloof became founded in 1776 making it one of the oldest wineries in South Africa. The name comes from the farthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek-Tals and means "Schlucht des Boekenhout" (pronounced: Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is a native Cape beech tree that is highly valued for furniture making.In 1993 that was Winery sold to introduce a new vineyard planting program that now Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier includes.

Winemaker As a well-known Syrah specialist, Marc Kent produces one of the best wines in South Africa with his red wine “The Chocolate Block”. Originally comes this French-style cuvée based on the model of the northern Rhône. However, the wine brings the typical, local fruitiness and richness with himself.
However, there are not too many bottles of this outstanding wine available. Because Boekenhoutskloof wins his wine from limited grapevines various vineyards, which are managed with greatly reduced yields.
Ursprung des The Chocolate Blocks
The Syrah gets that Winery from the hot and dry Malmesbury in the Swartland, north of Cape Town. The grape variety is one of the oldest of its kind in South Africa.
The Cinsaut again has his Originating from old Bush Vines from Wellington. The grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon & Viognier harvests the winery in Franschhoek even in a very gentle way.
Each of the grape varieties contributes to the special allure of The Chocolate Block wine.
The composition this wine is from Optimized vintage by vintage, to best reflect the climate and the old vines full of character, which are an essential part of the charm and personality of the wine.
The Chocolate Block flavor profile
Dem vintage 2020 was preceded by a very dry growing season, resulting in a record-breaking low crop yield led. This resulted in smaller, more concentrated berries. These circumstances were encouraging for the production of wines of great complexity. The Swartland experienced moderate temperatures in December 2020 and January 2020. The harvest window for The Chocolate Block was a mere two week period. According to early reports, 2021 is another good vintage for Syrah, with pronounced black fruit aromas and a classic black olive nuance.
The dominant variety Syrah (71%) shows one beautiful ink color in the glass. The GrenacheVineyards are well established, and this variety is undoubtedly the bright, fragrant star of the blend, evoking an old Châteauneuf-du-Pape-like charm.
The old Cinsaut grape variety remains an unheralded gem that effortlessly holds the wine together and a refined elegance established.
Cabernet Sauvignon With only eight percent content, it is essential to give the cuvée structure and grip.
Expansion: The Chocolate Block
The grape varieties Syrah and Cinsaut matured in a combination 2,500 liter barrels out of french oak and barrique barrels. The Grenache was matured in 600 liter barrels. Cabernet Sauvignon is the only component of the cuvée that is in new barriques made from French oak. The ripening period was between 13 and 16 months, depending on the component and the vineyard plot. 2414 barrique barrels were selected for the 2019 vintage.
The Chocolate Block im Glas
The "The Chocolate Block" presents itself in one deep ruby red with violet reflections and an almost black garnet-pithy taste. The wine shows aromas of red berries, dark fruit compotes and violets. On the palate, the wine tastes of red and black berries. The finish is long-lasting, tastes very good and is reminiscent of dark nut chocolate.

Zudem liefern wir frachtkostenfrei ab 120€ innerhalb Deutschlands. Des weiteren musst Du Dich nicht mit dem Paketdienst abstimmen und sicherstellen, dass jemand da ist, sobald die Lieferung eintrifft.
Wenn Du keine Möglichkeit hast, die Ware zu Freunden ins Grenzgebiet liefern zu lassen, dann können wir den Wein in einen UPS Access Point in Grenznähe nahe zu Deinem Wohnort liefern lassen. Du brauchst Dich nicht zu registrieren, es entstehen keine weiteren Kosten und Du musst nur Deine Weine innerhalb eines gewissen Zeitrahmens dort abholen.
