Kanonkop: A Synonym for South African Fine Wine

The Winery & Terroir

Kanonkop is not just a winery; it's a legend at the Cape. Located on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountain in the renowned Stellenbosch wine region, the estate benefits from ideal conditions for growing red wine grapes. The weathered granite soils and the cooling breeze from the nearby False Bay create complex, structured wines with great aging potential. The name 'Kanonkop' comes from a hill (kopje) from which a cannon was once fired to announce the arrival of ships in the harbour. Today, this name is globally recognized for some of South Africa's best red wines.

Wine Ranges in Our Collection

Our collection reflects the excellence of Kanonkop. At the top are the legendary Estate wines: the world-famous Kanonkop Pinotage, which is considered the benchmark for the grape, and the iconic 'Paul Sauer', an elegant Bordeaux-style blend. The premium line is complemented by a classic Cabernet Sauvignon. For more accessible enjoyment, there is the popular 'Kadette' range. It offers fantastic value for money with the Kadette Pinotage, the Kadette Cape Blend, and even a fruity Pinotage Rosé, providing the perfect introduction to the world of Kanonkop.

Food Pairing

Kanonkop wines are versatile food companions. The Kadette Rosé is perfect for light summer dishes and as an aperitif. The red Kadette wines pair wonderfully with pizza, pasta, and barbecues. The Estate Pinotage calls for robust dishes like game, rack of lamb, or spicy stews. The elegant Paul Sauer is the ideal wine for special occasions, harmonizing beautifully with beef fillet, aged cheese, or a festive roast.
