Avontuur Estate is idyllically located on the slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch – one of South Africa's most renowned wine regions. The family-run Winery has combined first-class winemaking with one of the country's best-known racehorse breeding operations for decades.
With great passion for the craft, elegant, terroir-driven wines are created here – from fresh white wines to classic red wines to iconic signature wines. The combination of horsepower and fine aromas makes Avontuur a unique experience.
Visitors enjoy not only an impressive panoramic view of False Bay but also a modern restaurant, a stylish tasting room, and the warm hospitality for which the Winery is known.
The deep ruby hue suggests its complexity and refinement. This Bordeaux-style blend exudes rich aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum and dark cherry, intertwined with cedar, pencil shavings and cigar box spice. Mocha, crushed violets and graphite add further intrigue. On the palate the dark fruit aromas are supported by finely integrated oak spice. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and intensity, Merlot lends a plush texture and rich fruit concentration, and Cabernet Franc brings herbal complexity. Silky yet firm tannins lead to a long, multi-layered finish with persistent notes of dark Chocolate, roasted coffee bean and spice. Although enjoyable in its youth, The Taberer will continue to develop over the next decade. Winemaking: Quality sorting continues in the cellar to ensure that only perfectly ripe grapes are vinified. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks over two weeks, with regular pump-overs, extracts a vibrant color and velvety tannins.

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
