Cave d'Esclans
The Château d’Esclans lies in the heart of Provence, northeast of St. Tropez, and is a magical estate. Its roots date back to the Gallic era, when it served as a lookout post. Later, in 1201, the château and its original cellars passed into the possession of Gérard de Villeneuve. In 2006, Sacha Lichine acquired the château with the vision of creating the world’s finest rosé wines and ushering in a “rosé renaissance”. Despite its acquisition by Moët Hennessy (LVMH) in 2019, it continues to operate under his leadership.
Château d’Esclans’ philosophy focuses on producing high-quality rosé wines comparable to fine white wines. This goal is achieved with state-of-the-art equipment and the expertise of renowned winemaker Patrick Léon, known for his work at Rothschild. The wines are often aged in oak barrels, which gives them complexity. Renowned cuvées include Château d’Esclans, Les Clans and Garrus, the latter considered the world’s most expensive rosé wine.
The terroir of Côtes de Provence , with its old Grenache vines, is known for highly concentrated aromas. The best-known cuvée, [Whispering Angel](/collection/whispering-angel), has established itself worldwide and is appreciated for its structure and aromas. Rock Angel is also very popular. Although the winery is primarily known for its rosé wines, it also produces high-quality white and red wines under the Esclans Déesse.
Tasting Note
Cave d'Esclans Whispering Angel Magnum is a premium rosé wine produced by the renowned winery Cave d'Esclans. Whispering Angel is one of the best-known and most popular rosé wines from Provence.
This rosé wine stands out for its excellent quality, elegant personality and refined flavour profile. It is made from a blend of several grape varieties, primarily Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (also known as Vermentino).

Grenache, Rolle, Syrah, Tibouren
This cuvée brings together red fruit, citrus freshness and Mediterranean spice. Grenache and Syrah contribute mainly berry aromas and body; Syrah can also add colour, peppery notes and a finely defined tannin structure. Rolle complements the blend with hints of citrus and lively acidity, while Tibouren often brings herbal, delicately spicy nuances. This allows fruit and freshness to balance each other without any single variety dominating the character.
The grape varieties are particularly associated with southern France and the Mediterranean region ; however, the combination alone does not point to a specific origin. A dry rosé styleis a natural fit, ranging from light and straightforward to somewhat fuller-bodied depending on ageing. When made as a rosé, the wine can show delicate salmon to deeper pink hues, usually with little tannin. It pairs well with vegetable dishes, fish or light meat dishes.
