Le Lude Winery in South Africa’s Western Cape shows just how masterfully handcrafted Cap Classique can be with its 2019 Brut Rosé. Made from cool-climate, hand-harvested Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, the base wine was aged partly in oak and mostly in stainless steel, without malolactic fermentation, before spending over 36 months ageing on lees in the bottle. The glass shimmers a delicate salmon orange, while a complex bouquet of fresh watermelon, ripe peach and grapefruit greets you. Delicate floral notes of rose petals mingle with a subtle hint of honey and yoghurt, creating a wonderfully deep aromatic profile. On the palate, its silky-fine bubbles and crystalline freshness delight, with sour cherries, juicy nectarine and zesty lemon peel. With precise acidity of 5.2 g/l, a delicate dosage of 3.3 g/l and a lean 11.76% ABV, this sparkling wine brings a wonderfully taut mineral purity to the glass.
