Dear wine friends,

In one of our last newsletters we asked you for tips and ideas for new wineries and hidden wine treasures.
Thanks to a little insider tip from one of our blog readers, we went to the furthest corner of Franschhoek and discovered a small rough diamond among the wineries:
My Wyn.
It's probably difficult to consider My Wyn as a “real” Winery to describe it - it has neither its own vines nor a large tasting room, as is known from the better-known tourist wineries.
The tasting is easily arranged by phone - you will then be welcomed with open arms by the winemaker Jacoline Haasbroek.
Then you have the bumpy slope Winery An incredible view awaits you down into the valley of the wine region.

Jacoline made her first wine in 2001 - at that time it was no more than 3 barrels or 900 bottles together with 400 bottles of sparkling wine for her own consumption. Today she already has a wider range of wines - 14 in number.

“It's like buying shoes from a woman. You can never have enough shoes – otherwise I would get bored with them in the long run.”

That's why Jacoline never produces more than 3 barrels of one type. Their annual production is therefore only around 5000 bottles - all "hand-made" and filled by hand.
After we are done with the cellar tour, we go to the veranda for the tasting.
Jacoline skilfully guides us through her range. Since it would be a little too complicated to present all the wines here, we would like to list our favorite here: the Cabernet Franc from 2013.
There are very few purebred Cabernet Francs in South Africa and these are not always a hit. Jacoline's Cabernet Franc was naturally fermented in open 500 liter barrels for 21 days and matured in French oak for 24 months. The grapes themselves come from a Burgundy farm in Franschhoek and were harvested at around 25°C.

The Cabernet Franc is a real rarity with a production quantity of only 3 barriques and, with its unfiltered bottling, is rounder and finer than the style of Cabernet Sauvignon that is usually known.
But now to the essentials.
The wine impresses with its intense aromas of dark fruits and an earthy note. The lingering finish emphasizes the quality of the wine - a great wine with red meat or rich, creamy pasta dishes.

My Wyn is really a nice alternative to the large yet very touristy wineries. Because that Winery takes you back to the origins of winemaking and shows what it's really about: wine.

We strongly recommend anyone traveling in the Franschhoek region to visit Jacoline's wine cellar and relax with a glass of wine and a breathtaking view.
