Winery Bellingham
The history of Bellingham begins in the year 1693, when the Dutchman Gerrit Janz van Vuuren and his wife planted the first 1,000 vines on the estate, which was then still called Bellinchamp ("beautiful fields").
Flavor notes The Founder Series Freda 2019, a meticulously crafted red wine, impresses with its complexity and elegance. Typically, it presents a multi-layered aroma profile that highlights dark berry fruits such as blackberries and cherries.
These fruit notes are often complemented by nuances of spices, leather, and tobacco, which arise from aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the Freda 2019 is full-bodied with a firm tannin structure and a long-lasting, harmonious finish.
Composition of this cuvée: 40% Chenin Blanc, 30% Grenache Blanc and 30% Sauvignon Blanc
Cuvée wine To the Cuvées include among others the most expensive wines in the world. Bordeaux wines from France or premium wines from the Rioja region in Spain also count among Cuvées. In addition, the best champagnes in the world are mostly cuvée champagnes, consisting of the grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
Also in South Africa, excellent cuvées are produced mainly due to the historical connection with the French wine world Cuvées.
But what exactly is a cuvée? Basically, Cuvée means the blending of a wine from different grape varieties in one fermentation tank. Also, the blending of grapes that come from different locations results in a wine being called a Cuvée. There are basically two different times when different locations and grape varieties can be blended.
Some Winemaker mix the grapes already during pressing. This results in the mixed grapes fermenting together in the fermentation tank . Blending afterwards, however, is more commonly used. Here, already fermented wines are blended together to mature together during storage.
Matches The Coastal Cuvée from the Winery Delaire Graff goes perfectly with fresh Ceviche and crispy Caesar Salad .
Additionally, one enjoys this fresh and expressive White wine cuvée excellent on warm days on the terrace.
Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
