Winery Rickety Bridge
The Rickety Bridge Wine Estate, located in Franschhoek on the slopes of the Dassenberg, is known for its high-quality Franschhoek wines.
Under the leadership of Winemaker Wynand Grobler, the Winery has offered an exclusive wine selection since its establishment in 1797.
Originally part of the La Provence farm, it was only operated under the name Rickety Bridge in the 1990s. The Winery has made significant investments in modern winemaking techniques and has a renovated wine cellar, which now serves exclusively as storage for the wooden barrels used during fermentation. The flagship range "Paulina's Reserve," named after the former owner Paulina de Villiers, is internationally recognized.
Tasting notes
The Rickety Bridge Foundation White Blend 2023 is a South African white wine distinguished by its elegance and complexity. This cuvée is made from a carefully selected blend of various grape varieties such as Nouvelle, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, and Grenache Blanc, which together create a harmonious taste experience. On the nose, it unfolds a seductive bouquet of delicate spring flowers, ripe peaches, mango, and other stone fruits. Subtle oak notes and a refined fruit character complete the aroma. On the palate, the wine presents itself as rich and well-structured. The fruity aromas are accompanied by a pleasant acidity that provides freshness. The finish is elegant and long-lasting. The 2023 vintage is particularly characterized by its freshness and elegance. This versatile wine is available in many well-stocked wine shops and online stores and offers excellent value for money. Whether for wine connoisseurs or beginners – the Rickety Bridge Foundation White Blend 2023 is an ideal companion for many occasions.

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
