The Vergelegen Reserve Merlot is an impressive red wine with a multifaceted bouquet. The aromas range from ripe fruit to spicy notes and a subtle hint of Chocolate. Through careful 16-month aging in small French oak barrels, delicate wood notes emerge, perfectly harmonizing with the fresh fruit acidity and ripe berry fruit. The finish of this wine is remarkably long-lasting, making it a special delight. The Vergelegen Reserve Merlot promises a refined tasting experience for wine lovers who appreciate a complex and balanced composition.

Merlot
Merlot is one of the most widely planted red wine grape varieties in the world, valued for its adaptability and approachable character. Merlot wines often have a deep red colour and show pronounced aromas of dark fruit such as plum and Blackberry, complemented by notes of cherry and sometimes subtle spicy or earthy nuances such as cedarwood or Chocolate.
On the palate, they are characterised by a soft texture, moderate acidity and smooth tannins , making them highly enjoyable to drink. Depending on ageing and origin, the spectrum can range from light, fruit-forward wines to complex, full-bodied examples.
Typical growing regions include Bordeaux, where it is often used in blends, as well as the New World, such as the USA or Chile, where it is often made as a single-variety wine. Merlot wines are versatile food pairings that go well with poultry, pasta or mild cheeses.
