La Motte Winery

The grapes used to produce La Motte- Wines used come from both the La Motte estate and other selected farms in the Cape Winelands. Thanks to the great diversity of terroirs, the grapes from each region make a unique contribution to the flavor components of La Motte wines. La Motte's Nabot Farm in the Walker Bay coastal region is an organic farm.

The unique charm of La Motte's wines comes from the character given to them by special soil types and the temperate climate. This creates growing conditions that favor the best grapes. La Motte's well-equipped wine cellar allows winemakers to combine tradition with modern science to produce wines that are renowned worldwide for their consistency and excellence.

Tasting notes

The Cabernet Sauvignon from the La Motte Winery pours into the glass with a complex yet gentle structure. An elegant, typical South African Cabernet Sauvignon red wine that excellently reflects the characteristics of the grape variety.

The dark red color and the high extract testify to a great year for red wines. Intense, varietal bouquet with aromas of black currant, violet, mint, and plum.

The La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon has a full body paired with intense fruitiness that brings a smile to every wine lover's face.

Grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon

Originating in Bordeaux, France, Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a history of nearly 400 years. This is a relatively short time compared to other grape varieties.

The grape variety Cabernet Sauvignon , as the name suggests, is a cross between the red wine grape variety Cabernet Franc and the white wine grape variety Sauvignon Blanc. Nowadays, the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety is one of the most widely planted grape varieties worldwide, alongside Merlot. The cultivation area within South Africa amounts to approximately 13,000 hectares. A large portion of cultivation takes place in Stellenbosch, east of Cape Town.

Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized primarily by its distinctive bouquet. With aromas of black currant, the grape variety delights with its fruity notes, often accompanied by a hint of green bell pepper. This grape variety is highly appreciated for its unique aging process, which can produce hints of vanilla and pleasant toasty aromas.

Traditionally, Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in small, bulbous oak barrels (barriques), which also influence the taste of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety. Young wines are also known for their licorice notes, while older vintages increasingly evoke hints of bell pepper on the finish.
