Rupert & Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is an exquisite red wine created through the renowned partnership between the South African Rupert family and the French Rothschild family. This partnership brings together the rich winemaking heritage of both families, producing a unique blend of South African terroir and French expertise.
The wine is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, both known for their quality and character in South Africa and France. The combination of these two grape varieties gives Rupert & Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot fascinating complexity and depth.
The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruit, such as blackcurrants, blackberries and black cherries. These are complemented by subtle notes of spices, cedarwood and dark Chocolate, giving the wine a pleasant spiciness and elegant structure.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
In this cuvée, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot complement each other to create a structured yet supple red wine. Cabernet Sauvignon often brings blackcurrant, backbone acidity and pronounced tannins; Merlot adds plum and ripe cherry, fills out the body and softens the overall impression with generally gentler tannins and more moderate acidity. The result combines generous fruit with approachability and a firm backbone. Given the right concentration and suitable ageing, the structure of acidity and tannins can offer good ageing potential .
The combination is classic in Bordeauxand well established in many other wine regions, including California and South Africa. Depending on the climate and ageing, the style can range from fresh and linear to rich and full-bodied, with possible notes of herbs, cedarwood or toast. The wine is usually a deep ruby red in the glass. It pairs well with roast meats, hearty vegetable dishes and aged cheese.
