Artelium
Artelium is an English wine producer founded by Julie Bretland and Mark Collins, with the vision of creating exceptional wines while supporting art and craftsmanship. The Winery sees itself not only as a wine producer, but as a place where creativity, craftsmanship and collaboration come together. The couple joined forces with renowned winemakers Dermot Sugrue and Owen Elias to bring their vision to life, focusing on crafting outstanding still and sparkling wines that reflect the character of each vintage and vineyard parcel.
Artelium’s philosophy is defined by an innovative approach that values the freedom of England’s wine region, unconstrained by the traditional rules of the Old World. This allows the winemakers to develop forward-looking wine styles and fully express their creativity. The Winery grows classic grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, as well as PIWI varieties (fungus-resistant vines) in keeping with its commitment to sustainability. Beyond wine production, Artelium is also a cultural hub, hosting art exhibitions, wine seminars, workshops and other events to bring the community together and celebrate the connection between wine and art.
Artelium’s terroir spans two vineyards in Sussex. The larger Madehurst Vineyard covers 45 acres and is located in the South Downs National Park. This site has chalk-rich soils that are ideal for producing high-quality sparkling wines. It was planted in 2019 and 2020, and its first vintage was produced in 2022. Streat Vineyard covers 20 acres of clay soils and has a similar range of grape varieties. These two sites offer different growing conditions, allowing the winemakers to create expressive wines that reflect the character of each vineyard. Artelium uses a blend of Champagne, Burgundy and Alsace clones to produce still and sparkling wines with a distinctive character.

The Artelium Pinot Noir Reserve 2023 shows an expressive, yet refined bouquet. On the nose, fresh notes of Cranberry, Black Cherry and Raspberry combine with more complex hints of cedar, floral rose and a light tobacco scent. This combination gives the wine a elegant, spicy depth.

Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder, is one of the world's noblest and most demanding red wine grape varieties. It is characterised by its pale ruby-red to brick-red colour . The bouquet is complex, with aromas of red berries such as cherry, raspberry and strawberry, often complemented by spicy notes, earthy tones or nuances of undergrowth with age. The wines are generally elegant, medium-bodied wines but can also be powerful and profound.
Typical growing regions include French Burgundy, while Germany, Oregon, California and South Africa also produce outstanding Pinot Noirs. The style ranges from fruit-driven and fresh to complex and mature, often refined through ageing in barriques, which can impart notes of vanilla or roasted coffee.
Pinot Noir offers a fine balance of fruit and acidity and is a versatile food pairing wine. It pairs well with poultry, mushroom dishes, white meats and mild cheese.
