The Backsberg Family Wines Smuggled Vines Chardonnay is an elegant white wine from South Africa, made from 100% Chardonnay grapes. The grapes come from "smuggled vines" brought from France to South Africa during the apartheid era.
This wine has a pale golden colour and an aromatic bouquet of citrus fruits, pears, peaches and oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied and creamy, with well-balanced acidity that enhances its freshness and vibrancy.
Notes of tropical fruit, vanilla and toasted bread round out the flavour, leading to a long and elegant finish.

Chardonnay
Chardonnay is one of the best-known and most versatile white grape varieties in the world, distinguished by its remarkable ability to adapt to different climates and soils. In the glass, it often shows a bright yellow with golden highlights. Its flavour profile ranges from fresh notes of green apple, citrus fruit and mineral hints in cooler regions to more opulent aromas of tropical fruit, hazelnut and vanilla when aged in oak in warmer growing regions.
Chardonnay's structure can range from lean and refreshingly crisp to full and creamy and smooth , often accompanied by moderate to pronounced acidity. It is grown in almost every wine-producing country worldwide, from Burgundy to California and Australia.
This grape variety is an excellent partner for a wide range of dishes, including fish, poultry and white meat, with the ideal pairing depending on the style.
