Winery Peter Falke
In the heart of the South African wine region Stellenbosch, picturesque on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains, is the Winery Peter Falke Wines. The traditional Groenvlei Farm, which can trace its roots back to the 18th century, is today run by the world-renowned hosiery manufacturer Peter Falke and his French wife Daniele, who are among the most respected wine producers in South Africa.
Already at a young age, Peter Falke discovered his passion for South Africa and its exquisite wines. Through the opening of a branch of his textile company Falke in the 1970s, he visited the country regularly and forged close ties to the land and its people. In the 1990s, he and his wife finally decided to realize their dream and acquired the historic Groenvlei estate.
Today, the Winery Peter Falke Wines shines in a harmonious blend of centuries-old tradition and contemporary modernity. Daniele, a talented designer, significantly shaped the beautiful interior design and furnishings of the winery. The ambiance is complemented by a state-of-the-art wine cellar, a stylish boutique, and a luxurious outdoor lounge with an adjoining restaurant. These components come together to form a feel-good package that makes the estate a special experience for wine lovers.
Tasting notes
The Signature Alani Syrah by Peter Falke reveals intense aromas of cranberries and cherries, complemented by notes of white pepper and a hint of vanilla, adding a spicy component.
On the palate, this full-bodied red wine, which aged for eighteen months in French oak, impresses with its fine spicy character and silky tannins.
On the nose, there are inviting dark fruits with aromatic notes of spice and red fruits. On the palate, soft, velvety tannins combine with lingering mulberry fruit.
Grape variety Shiraz
From the grapes of the Syrah or Shiraz variety, two different styles emerge depending on the origin of the wine and the development in the Winery. These differ significantly from each other in both smell and taste.
The Shiraz wines have a very strong and fruit-forward taste with aromas of cherries and plums. Additionally, aromas of dark Chocolate are typical for Shiraz wines.
The Syrah wines have a rather slim and elegant character in comparison. Additionally, Syrah wines are characterized by a spicy taste. Syrah wines also often exhibit subtle wood notes and typical aromas such as cloves, cinnamon, pepper, forest floor, or leather.
Both wine styles are characterized by a complex aroma and a racy character.

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
