Nose: On the nose the Phoenix 2018 shows an intense interplay of aromas of blackcurrant and subtle liquorice, accompanied by nuances of dark Chocolate and freshly ground coffee. The aromatic profile is deep and layered and already promises great structure. Palate: On the palate the wine is powerful yet remarkably elegant. Ripe dark fruit meets finely structured, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, silky and harmonious. A characterful red wine with impressive balance, depth and a long finish. Vintage: The Phoenix 2018 tells a special story. After the devastating fire in January 2016 at Avondale it became strikingly apparent how capable nature is of renewal. Shortly afterwards new life began to sprout as the seeds of the Protea started to germinate. The name "Phoenix" — a symbol of rebirth and renewal — therefore suggested itself.
