The Backsberg Family Wines Smuggled Vines Chardonnay is an elegant white wine from South Africa, made from 100% Chardonnay grapes. The grapes originate from "smuggled vines" that were brought from France to South Africa during the apartheid era.
This wine has a pale golden color and an aromatic bouquet of citrus fruits, pears, peaches, and oak wood. On the palate, it is full-bodied and creamy, with a well-balanced acidity that emphasizes its freshness and vivacity.
Notes of tropical fruits, vanilla, and toasted bread complete the flavor profile, leading to a long and elegant finish.

Chardonnay
Chardonnay is one of the world's best-known and most versatile white grape varieties, distinguished by its remarkable adaptability to different climates and soils. In the glass, it often appears a brilliant yellow with golden highlights. Its flavour profile ranges from fresh notes of green apple, citrus fruit and mineral hints in cooler regions to more opulent aromas of tropical fruit, hazelnut and vanilla when matured in oak in warmer growing regions.
Chardonnay's structure can range from lean and refreshingly lively to full-bodied and creamy and supple , often accompanied by moderate to pronounced acidity. It is cultivated in almost all wine-producing countries worldwide, from Burgundy through California to Australia.
This grape variety is an excellent companion to a wide range of dishes, including fish, poultry and white meat, and adapts perfectly depending on the style.
