Winery Holden Manz
The Holden Manz Winery is characterized by a highly modern design combined with state-of-the-art technology in the wine cellar. This enables the Winemaker Thierry Haberer to express Holden Manz's special terroir. The 22-hectare Winery is located in the farthest corner of the Franschhoek Valley and is only about an hour's drive from Cape Town. The two owners Gerard Holden and Migo Manz have already received numerous national and international awards with their Winery. After the acquisition in 2010 (formerly "Klein Genoot"), the two began restoring both the wine cellar and the rest of the Winery. Gerard and Migo operate, in addition to the wine cellar, an exclusive 5-star hotel with international cuisine at the highest level. The South African art exhibited at the Winery perfectly completes the "Holden Manz experience."
Tasting notes
The Chardonnay Reserve 2022 from the Winery Holden Manz shines in a strong lemon yellow in the glass. While scent nuances of citrus fruits and roasted almond, as well as peach, emerge on the nose, the Chardonnay Reserve is creamy on the palate with a fine complexity that presents itself in the form of apricot-, light spice- and nut aroma.
On the palate, the full-bodied white wine impresses above all with its complexity and its elegance. A carefully structured acidity rounds off the experience in the finish and aftertaste.
Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
