Idiom
Idiom has embodied the Bottega family’s passion for exquisite wines in the wine region Stellenbosch, South Africa, since 1999. Picturesquely situated on the upper slopes of the Helderberg, the winery enjoys breathtaking views of False Bay and benefits from unique microclimates shaped by its proximity to the sea and the surrounding mountains. The philosophy of Idiom is to make the most of the terroir and bring out the distinctive characteristics of each grape variety.
Under the direction of cellar master Roberto Bottega , an impressive variety of grapes is grown. Alongside classic Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the portfolio also includes Pinotage and Shiraz . This diversity is reflected in the experimental yet terroir-driven wines, regularly celebrated for their personality and sense of place.
Idiom is synonymous with innovative winemaking, with every drop reflecting the dedication and expertise of the Roberto Bottega team. The wines are an expression of exceptional winemaking and embody South Africa’s rich winemaking tradition.
Colour: Bright yellow hue and lively effervescence.
Nose: The nose reveals delicate notes of light tropical fruits such as green apple and pineapple, complemented by hints of ginger biscuit and fresh citrus zest.
Palate: It begins with a gentle sweetness that carries tropical fruit flavours through to a crisp mid-palate. Subtle notes of white pepper and lively citrus zest add freshness and lift. Light, refreshing and easy-drinking, with a clean, sparkling finish.
Winemaking: The grapes were harvested at 20.5° Balling, with only the free-run juice used to make this elegant Viognier sparkling wine. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 12-16°C using selected yeast strains to preserve the delicate fruit aromas. The wine aged on fine lees for six months to build texture and complexity while preserving freshness. It was then bottled to capture its natural liveliness and youthful fruit expression.
