Marianne Wines
Nestled in the gentle hills of the Stellenbosch wine region is Marianne Winery, run by Franck Massard, and known for its high-quality red wines. The winemaker and founder, a former sommelier from France, made his dream come true here in 2004. The winery places great importance on sustainable farming practices and low yields to produce wines with strong character and Burgundian finesse.
Particularly noteworthy are the Marianne Pinotage – a tribute to South Africa’s signature grape variety, Pinotage – and the Marianne Floreal. The latter is an expressive blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon .
The wines stand out for their elegance, complexity and longevity, and reflect the unique South African terroir.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
In the glass, a delicate, pale rosé with salmon-coloured reflections in the classic Provence style. The nose offers fine, elegant aromas of rose petals, fresh raspberry and cranberry, complemented by subtle notes of white peach and a hint of orange. Light, fresh and balanced on the palate, with lively acidity that brings tension and a moreish quality. The fruit is precise and juicy, while a fine texture lends elegance and balance. The combination of freshness and subtle fruit makes this rosé particularly approachable and versatile. The finish is clean, vibrant and refreshing, with lingering red-fruit notes and a fine, dry structure.

Cinsault, Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre
This blend brings together red and dark berries, cherry and spice. Cinsault and Grenache often contribute approachable, juicy fruit; Cinsault can add floral lightness and freshness, while Grenache tends to bring body and warmth. Shiraz and Mourvèdre usually add colour, tannin and structure as well as peppery, herbal or earthy notes. Grenache and Shiraz both contribute to the wine’s body. The actual acidity and freshness depend greatly on the vineyard site, ripeness and ageing.
The combination is at home in warm wine-growing regions such as southern France, South Africa and Australia without pointing to one definitive classic origin. In the glass, it is often ruby to dark red, with violet reflections. Stylistically, it ranges from fruit-forward and supple to powerful, spicy and tannic; ageing in oak can add further toasted notes. It pairs well with grilled meat, braised vegetables or hearty stews.
