Bodega Catena Zapata and chief winemaker Alejandro Vigil showcase the pure excellence of Mendoza with Catena Alta Malbec 2022: a meticulous selection of historic plots from Luján de Cuyo (Angélica, La Pirámide) and the cool Uco Valley (Nicasia, Adrianna, Angélica Sur), at elevations of up to 1,450 metres. The cool autumn allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly, giving this wine remarkably balanced freshness and natural concentration. In the glass, deep violet shimmers with blue highlights, followed by an enticing bouquet of fresh plum, Blackberry and dark cherry. Whole-bunch spontaneous fermentation in small tanks and barrels, followed by 12 to 18 months of ageing in French oak, brings floral notes of violet and lavender, alongside hints of fine cocoa, leather and vanilla. The palate is remarkably juicy and supple: alluvial soils of loam, clay and gravel lend silky tannins, while the limestone-rich soil of the Adrianna vineyard brings a flinty, chalky minerality. Precise at 13.6% ABV.
