Weingut Kleine Zalze
In the heart of the picturesque Stellenbosch region lies a centuries-old jewel - the Winery Kleine Zalze. Adjacent to the provincial town of Stellenbosch, affectionately called "Little Europe," Kleine Zalze offers a wide selection of award-winning wines. The vineyards of the Winery Kleine Zalze are located on various slopes and feature different soil types. A fresh sea breeze blows from the coast just 15 kilometers away, providing a cool climate, optimal growth and ripening conditions, and therefore pronounced fruit aromas in the wines. The estate also offers a variety of attractions, including the critically acclaimed gourmet restaurant, breathtaking hiking and cycling routes, the well-known De Zalze golf course, and the luxurious four-star Cape Dutch style lodge.
Tasting notes
The Kleine Zalze MCC Vintage Brut is an elegant white sparkling wine from the renowned South African winery Kleine Zalze. This vintage Champagne is a careful blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, sourced from the region's best vineyards. The bouquet of this noble sparkling wine is characterized by delightful aromas of honey, biscuit and brioche. On the palate it presents as dry and elegant with a subtle minerality and refreshing acidity. The finish is long and persistent.
Its harmonious aromatic profile and structure make it an excellent wine for special occasions or as a gift for wine lovers. This vintage Champagne ages for at least 4 years on the lees to achieve its unique complexity and depth. An exceptional wine from the house of Kleine Zalze, the result of decades of experience and a passion for producing high-quality sparkling wines.
Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
