Kleinood
The South African Winery Kleinood is located in the remote and picturesque Bot River region, where it has been guided with dedication since it was founded in 2000 by Gerard de Villiers and his family. It is Bot River region known for its cool breezes from the Atlantic, which create ideal conditions for growing grape varieties inspired by Mediterranean climates. This is reflected in wines of great elegance and freshness. Kleinood is committed to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir and the region’s diversity of species.
The vineyard management follows sustainable principles to protect and support the natural environment. The focus of the winery is on producing high-quality wines that are authentic and expressive. A special hallmark is its focus on the grape variety Shiraz.
The winery is particularly known for its Tambourine Mountain Syrah, which captures the essence of the winery and the region. These are wines made with care and respect for nature, resulting in a distinctive quality that delights both connoisseurs and first-time explorers.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe Blackberry, accompanied by floral notes of violet and a subtle spice of black pepper. On the palate, the wine is juicy and vibrant, with a lovely balance of fruit and freshness. Its elegant structure is supported by fine-grained tannins, while spicy, dark-fruit notes unfold on the long, harmonious finish.

Shiraz, Mouvedré & Viognier
This cuvée brings together dark fruit, spice and floral accents. Shiraz and Mouvedré contribute primarily aromas of blackberries, plums and pepper as well as colour, body and tannin. Mouvedré can add earthy and herbaceous spicy notes, while Viognier can contribute floral nuances and a softer impression on the palate. The freshness depends largely on the site and harvest timing; Viognier is not automatically a source of acidity.
Comparable cuvée styles dominated by Shiraz can be found, for example, in South Africa and southern France, although this combination does not refer to a specific classic origin. In the glass, the wine is usually deep ruby-red to purple. The style ranges from juicy and spicy to dense and powerful, with noticeable tannin and varying degrees of lively acidity. It pairs well with roasted meat, mushroom dishes or spicy vegetable dishes.
