Winery Stellenzicht
Stellenzicht, a historic Winery with a tradition dating back to 1692, is today synonymous with excellence and terroir expression. Located in one of South Africa's richest wine-growing regions, Stellenzicht carefully nurtures its unique soils and microclimates to produce wines that reflect the rich heritage and natural diversity of their surroundings. Since its revival in 2017, Stellenzicht consistently honors its history while simultaneously embracing innovation and modernity in its wines.
Every sip of a Stellenzicht wine is a journey through centuries of winemaking artistry, captured in a glass full of character, depth, and distinctive terroir.
Tasting notes
The Arenite Syrah from Winery Stellenzicht is an outstanding wine that thrives in the rocky soils of the winery. Rooted in history and the earth, this wine impressively reflects the terroir of its origin. Made from the same original Syrah clone as its celebrated predecessor, the Stellenzicht Syrah Arenite delights with rich layers of dark berry fruits, subtle spice notes, and finely structured tannins. Each sip reveals the depth and complexity shaped by the unique arenite sandstone soils and the ideal climate of the region.
Grape variety Shiraz
From the grapes of the Syrah or Shiraz variety, two different styles emerge depending on the origin of the wine and the aging process at the Winery. These differ significantly from each other in both aroma and taste.
The Shiraz wines have a very strong and fruit-forward taste with aromas of cherries and plums. Additionally, aromas of dark Chocolate are typical for Shiraz wines.
The Syrah wines have a rather slim and elegant character in comparison. Additionally, Syrah wines are characterized by a spicy taste. Syrah wines also often exhibit subtle wood notes and typical aromas such as cloves, cinnamon, pepper, forest floor, or leather.
Both wine styles are characterized by a complex aroma and a racy character.

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
