Leopards Leap Family Vineyards
Winery Leopard's Leap in the sun-drenched Franschhoek wine region is known for its approachable quality wines and family-friendly atmosphere. The estate combines winemaking with food, and places great importance on sustainability to preserve the natural beauty of the Cape province.
As the namesake and symbol, the critically endangered Cape leopard is featured, and its protection is actively supported. The philosophy of promoting a “worthy life” is reflected in the quality of the wines.
The main grape varieties are the fresh Chenin Blanc from South Africa and the characteristic Pinotage from South Africa.
With the Classic Pinotage 2025, Leopard’s Leap brings South Africa’s signature grape variety from the sun-drenched coastal regions of Swartland and Paarl into the glass with maximum drinkability. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed and fermented at 22 to 24 degrees with regular punch-downs – a wonderfully juicy, uncomplicated expression of Pinotage. On the nose, the Cape’s characteristic spice immediately comes through: fully ripe raspberries and juicy plums meet clove and a hint of vanilla. Responsible for this fine finish is six to eight months of aging on staves made from 70% French, 20% American and 10% Hungarian oak, providing deeply layered oak spice and aromatic density. On the palate, a wave of red berry fruit unfolds, carried by silky-soft tannins and gently balanced acidity of 5.15 g/l, with 3.65 g/l residual sugar.

Grape Variety
Chenin Blanc is a widely cultivated, old white wine grape variety that has been grown in France (in Anjou – Touraine) since the 9th century. Compared to other white wine grape varieties, this variety is very productive. This leads to a very high quality of the white wine when reduced on the vine.
In South Africa, Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown white wine grape variety. The reason for this is primarily the very high diversity. For example, there are "wild-growing" vines (so-called Bush Vines) that are usually not irrigated. For this reason, the vines penetrate very deep into the ground with their roots to reach water. These Chenin Blancs therefore have a stronger depth and complexity.
The grape variety can also be aged very fresh and fruity in stainless steel tanks, developing into a very nice summer wine. Through the Aged in oak barrels, one obtains very complex and full-bodied white wines. The aromas of Chenin Blanc wines range from peach, apricot, and tropical fruits to honey and melon.
