Rupert & Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is an exquisite red wine that has emerged from the renowned cooperation between the South African Rupert family and the French Rothschild family. This partnership combines the rich heritage of winemaking of both families and produces a unique blend of South African terroir and French expertise.
The wine mainly consists of the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which are known for their quality and character both in South Africa and France. The combination of these two grape varieties gives the Rupert & Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot a fascinating complexity and depth.
On the nose, the wine unfolds intense aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackcurrants, blackberries, and black cherries. These are complemented by subtle notes of spices, cedarwood, and dark Chocolate, which give the wine a pleasant spiciness and an elegant structure.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
In this cuvée, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot complement each other to create a structured yet supple red wine. Cabernet Sauvignon often brings blackcurrant, backbone acidity and pronounced tannins; Merlot adds plum and ripe cherry, fills out the body and softens the overall impression with generally gentler tannins and more moderate acidity. The result combines generous fruit with approachability and a firm backbone. Given the right concentration and suitable ageing, the structure of acidity and tannins can offer good ageing potential .
The combination is classic in Bordeauxand well established in many other wine regions, including California and South Africa. Depending on the climate and ageing, the style can range from fresh and linear to rich and full-bodied, with possible notes of herbs, cedarwood or toast. The wine is usually a deep ruby red in the glass. It pairs well with roast meats, hearty vegetable dishes and aged cheese.
