Avondale Wine Estate
Avondale Winery, nestled in the majestic setting of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains, stands as a shining example of sustainable farming. Under the expert guidance of cellar master Corne Kruger , the vineyards are farmed biodynamically in harmony with nature’s rhythms, fostering a deep connection between the soil, the vines and the entire ecosystem.
The winery offers an impressive selection of elegant wines, including the signature Chenin Blanc, expressive Syrah and artfully crafted blends, all reflecting the vitality of this unique Franschhoek-terroir.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The 2025 Camissa from Avondale Winery seduces the nose with delicate floral notes of rose petals and scented geranium, underpinned by fresh red fruit, a hint of honey and citrus. On the palate, it is vibrant and balanced, with fine, fresh acidity and a subtle sweetness on the attack that gives way to a dry, elegant finish. Its texture is smooth and slightly creamy, supported by precise minerality.
Composition of this cuvée
45% Grenache, 40% Muscat de Frontignan, 15% Mourvedre
Blends are sometimes among the most expensive wines in the world. Bordeaux wines from France and premium wines from the Rioja wine region in Spain are also blends. What’s more, the world’s finest Champagnes are usually blended Champagnes, made from the grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
Outstanding blends are also made in South Africa, thanks in particular to its historic ties to the French wine world.

Grenache, Muscat de Frontignan, Mourvèdre
This blend brings together fruit and body with spice and structure: Grenache often contributes red berries, ripe fruit and alcohol-driven richness, while Mourvedre can add darker fruit notes, herbal spice, colour and tannin. Muscat de Frontignan adds an aromatic contrast with floral and grape aromas . This aromatic freshness should not be confused with high acidity; the actual acidity depends largely on the site, ripeness and winemaking.
The varieties are associated with the Mediterranean region, particularly southern France; however, this does not establish a classic origin for this combination. Stylistically, the blend could produce fruit-forward wines with floral accents or fuller-bodied, spicier expressions. Depending on how it is made, the wine can range in colour from rosé to deep red. Sweetness and tannin levels are not determined by the variety names either. Depending on the style, it pairs well with vegetable dishes, poultry or spicy stews.
