Backsberg Family Wines
The renowned winery with tradition Backsberg Family Wines was founded in 1916 and is today run in the fourth generation by the Back family. Located in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley, it showcases a unique family legacy in its new tasting room, with a century-old tractor as the centerpiece.
Backsberg is known for its diverse, structured wines. As the first certified carbon-neutral winery in South Africa since 2006, it follows a consistent sustainability philosophy. The range includes certified kosher wines as well as popular grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
Visitors can enjoy the freshly renovated facility while tasting wines such as the aromatic Pinotage or the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc . The winery brings together wine, history, and the beauty of nature in a truly unique way.

Refreshing and fruity, the Backsberg Family Wines Summer Berry Rosé delights with aromas of juicy strawberries and sparkling grapefruit, rounded off by light citrus fruits.
Made from Grenache Noir and Pinotage grapes and matured in a steel tank, this dry rosé is perfect for mild summer evenings. A true delight for you!

Grenache Noir and Pinotage
In this cuvée, red fruit from Grenache Noir combines with the dark berries and plums from Pinotage. Grenache Noir often contributes ripe cherry, spicy nuances and soft fullness; Pinotage complements these with denser fruit, body and a more pronounced tannin structure. Both often show moderate acidity, whose expression depends greatly on the site and harvest timing. This can create a full-bodied, spicy-fruited red wine whose tannins seem integrated by the abundance of fruit.
Grenache Noir is particularly widespread in southern France and Spain , while Pinotage is found mainly in South Africa. The combination is not a classically defined cuvée style. In the glass, its colour ranges from ruby red to deep red depending on its Aged and extraction. Fruit concentration and tannin can together create ageing potential; acidity and Aged also play a role. This style of wine pairs well with hearty vegetable dishes or roasted meat.
