High up in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, just five kilometres from the cool Atlantic, Hasher Family Wines’ vines take root in weathered granite and quartzite. The 2023 Ernest Pinot Noir brings this maritime freshness to the glass, with 13% ABV and pure energy. This is cool-climate terroir at its purest, perfectly capturing the vibrant elegance of the Cape’s finest vineyards. It glows a vivid ruby red in the glass, immediately enticing you with a complex array of aromas. Juicy wild strawberry and sour cherry meet subtle notes of Earl Grey and spicy fynbos, while eleven months aged in 228-litre barriques, 27% of them new, lends a delicate, unobtrusive spice. The wine opens wonderfully silky on the palate, but soon shows its character with fine-grained tannins, sour cherry and fresh pomegranate. Lively acidity of 5.68 g/l, with an almost dry profile, keeps the wine flowing and leads into a pleasantly grippy, mineral finish.
