Wine guideAlcohol-free wine: how it’s made and how it tastes
Real wine – just without the alcohol
Alcohol-free wines start out as ordinary wine: the grapes are picked, pressed and fermented. Only afterwards is the alcohol gently removed, usually by low-temperature vacuum distillation, so the fruit and character of the wine are largely preserved. In Germany a wine may be labelled “alcohol-free” if it contains no more than 0.5% vol; you’ll find the exact figure on each product page.
Our selection
Leopard’s Leap from Franschhoek in South Africa offers a fresh de-alcoholised white in its Natura range, plus a sparkling version for toasting. Kolonne Null specialises entirely in alcohol-free wine – we stock its Rosé and Rosé Prickelnd.
What does alcohol-free wine taste like?
Alcohol adds body and warmth, so alcohol-free wines often feel lighter, fresher and more fruit-driven. Serve them well chilled to bring out acidity and aromas – sparkling and rosé at around 6–8 °C, white at 8–10 °C.
Pairs well with
Salads, fish, Asian dishes, antipasti and summery food. The sparkling rosé is a lovely alcohol-free alternative to bubbly at brunch or as an aperitif. Keep opened bottles tightly closed in the fridge and enjoy within a few days.

Frequently asked questions
Is alcohol-free wine completely free of alcohol?
In Germany, wines with no more than 0.5% vol may be called “alcohol-free”. Many de-alcoholised wines are well below that. You’ll find the exact alcohol content on each product page.
How is the alcohol removed?
The wine is first fermented as usual. The alcohol is then removed, usually by vacuum distillation at a low temperature, which largely preserves fruit and aromas.
How does alcohol-free wine compare in taste?
Without alcohol there is a little less body and warmth, so alcohol-free wines usually taste lighter, fresher and fruitier. They show their aromas best when well chilled.
How long does an opened bottle keep?
Kept tightly closed in the fridge, drink alcohol-free wine within a few days – use a sparkling-wine stopper for bubbly. Without alcohol it is a little more delicate than regular wine.
Where do you deliver and what does shipping cost?
