The Winery & Terroir
Fryer's Cove is one of South Africa's most unusual wineries. Located directly on the cool Atlantic coast in the former fishing village of Doringbaai, the vines brave the harsh conditions of the Cape West Coast. The constant, cool wind and the salty ocean mist shape the grapes, lending the wines a distinctive minerality and freshness reminiscent of a sea breeze. This extreme cool-climate terroir is the foundation for wines with a unique character.
Another unique feature is the wine cellar, a converted fish factory. Here, seawater is pumped through the walls to ensure natural and constant cooling—a perfect example of the symbiosis between viticulture and the ocean that defines Fryer's Cove.
Wine Ranges in Our Selection
In our selection, you'll find the core ranges of Fryer's Cove. The Bamboes Bay range, named after the bay where the vines grow, represents the pinnacle of the winery. Here you'll find complex and age-worthy wines, led by the celebrated Sauvignon Blanc. The Doringbay range offers more accessible, fresh wines for everyday enjoyment, such as the Sauvignon Blanc and an elegant Pinot Noir Rosé. The portfolio is complemented by delicate red wines like Pinot Noir and a Grenache-Cinsault blend.
Food Pairing
Fryer's Cove wines practically cry out for seafood. The mineral-driven Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect partner for oysters, grilled fish, or sushi. The Chenin Blanc pairs wonderfully with white meat or creamy pasta dishes. The Pinot Noir Rosé is a fantastic aperitif and accompanies light salads, while the elegant Pinot Noir and Grenache Cinsault are great with grilled poultry or Mediterranean dishes.
Price Range
The wines from this unique coastal winery offer excellent value for money. Entry-level wines are available from us from around €13, while the premium wines of the Bamboes Bay range are priced higher.
