Vergelegen
Founded in 1700, Vergelegen Winery is a South African flagship estate in the heart of Stellenbosch. The estate’s history of more than 300 years is reflected in its beautifully preserved, extensive gardens and restored manor house. The winery is one of South Africa’s most beautiful and has earned an international reputation.
It is particularly renowned for its Bordeaux blends, often made from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc . It also produces single-varietal wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz .
Vergelegen offers a unique combination of culture, history and world-class winemaking, and is considered a pioneer in sustainable viticulture and conservation in the Stellenbosch Wine Region.
Tasting Note
The MMV Brut from Winery Vergelegen shows fine aromas with a hint of toast, citrus fruit, spices and baked apples. Long, lingering and refreshing finish.
The grapes were hand-harvested from the Korhaan and Slanghoek vineyards. The Korhaan vineyard was planted in 1988 and the Slanghoek vineyard in 2006. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented for the first fermentation in 228-litre white wine barrels. The base wine was bottled on 1 February 2018 for the second fermentation. Aged for 45 months on the lees.
