Vergelegen
Founded in 1700, Vergelegen Winery is a South African flagship estate in the heart of Stellenbosch. The estate’s history of more than 300 years is reflected in its beautifully preserved, extensive gardens and restored manor house. The winery is one of South Africa’s most beautiful and has earned an international reputation.
It is particularly renowned for its Bordeaux blends, often made from grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc . It also produces single-varietal wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz .
Vergelegen offers a unique combination of culture, history and world-class winemaking, and is considered a pioneer in sustainable viticulture and conservation in the Stellenbosch Wine Region.
Tasting Note
The Vergelegen Florence Rosé shines with a delicate, pale pink hue and greets you with an alluring bouquet of subtle notes of strawberries, raspberries and a hint of sour cherry. Light floral nuances dance on the nose, lending the wine an airy freshness. The wine reveals a delicate harmony that gently delights the senses.
The grapes for this rosé were hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. It is made from 80% Shiraz.
Fresh strawberries on the nose and palate, with a wonderful sour cherry character and lively acidity.

Shiraz and Grenache
This blend brings together the dark fruit and spice of Shiraz with the red fruit and richness of Grenache. Shiraz often contributes blackberry, pepper, colour and firmer tannins; Grenache adds cherry, raspberry and a warm, supple body. Its typically milder acidity is balanced by Shiraz’s often more prominent acidity. The result is a juicy to powerful red wine, with its generous fruit enveloping the tannin structure. Tannins, acidity and fruit concentration can combine to create ageing potential, depending on the origin and ageing.
This combination is especially well established in southern France, particularly in the southern Rhône, as well as in South Africa. The style ranges from fruit-forward and approachable to spicy, concentrated and age-worthy. In the glass, the blend is usually ruby to deep red; oak ageing can add further toasted notes. It pairs well with quickly seared or braised meat and spicy vegetable dishes.
