From the Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch, Le Pommier breaks with convention with this dessert wine. The grapes from 14- to 20-year-old trellised vines were left to raisin on the vine until March, then harvested at 30 degrees Brix and traditionally foot-trodden. South African richness and an invigorating drinkability come together perfectly after 24 hours of skin contact and nine months of ageing in used French oak. In the glass, the wine shimmers a delicate pale gold and immediately reveals a complex, spontaneously fermented bouquet. Expect juicy peach, preserved citrus fruit and ripe tropical fruit, elegantly wrapped in a delicate hint of liquid honey. On the palate, a rich 77.4 grams of residual sugar meets a precise 6.8 grams of acidity and a pH of 3.35, bringing lusciousness without any heaviness.
