Tasting Note

The '12 Mile'  Syrah from Old Road Wine Co Winery. tells the story of a postman who travelled 12 miles every day, come rain or shine, to deliver the mail. With this, the Syrah continues the Original Series of Old Road, which recalls the stories of the legendary characters of the Franschhoek community in their early years.

The nose offers inviting blackcurrant with aromatic notes of white pepper and coriander. On the palate, soft, velvety tannins combine with lingering mulberry fruit.

Shiraz grape variety

Depending on the wine's origin and how it is made at the winery, grapes of the Syrah or Shiraz variety produce two distinct styles. They differ significantly in both aroma and taste.

Shiraz wines have a very full-bodied, fruit-forward taste, with aromas of cherries and plums. Aromas of dark Chocolate are also typical of Shiraz wines.

By comparison, Syrah wines tend to be lighter and more elegant in character. Syrah wines are also distinguished by their spicy taste. They often show subtle oak notes and typical aromas such as cloves, cinnamon, pepper, forest floor or leather.

Both wine styles are distinguished by complex aromas and a bold character.
