The family Winery De Grendel in the Durbanville Hills has a rich history dating back to 1720 and was revived as a winery in 2000. Owned by the Graaff family, it enjoys a picturesque view of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.
As the flagship grape variety, the Sauvignon Blanc, which finds ideal conditions here, shines. The winery impresses with a variety of elegant, classic wines that reflect the terroir.
De Grendel is a founding member of the Durbanville Wine Valley Association and actively supports the development of regional winegrowing.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The Proposal Hill Brut Rosé from De Grendel has all the hallmarks of a conventional, meticulously crafted sparkling wine, while also seeming playful and exciting.
This complex wine offers layers of flavour and a fuller palate than the average sparkling wine. Its delicate, long-lasting mousse gives way to a hint of oyster shell and fresh lavender on the nose.
This is followed by an exceptionally long finish. The intensity of strawberry coulis and black cherry is balanced by vibrant acidity.

Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder, is one of the world’s noblest and most demanding red wine grape varieties. It is distinguished by its pale ruby-red to brick-red colour . The bouquet is complex, with aromas of red berries such as cherry, raspberry and strawberry, often complemented by spicy notes, earthy tones or hints of forest floor with age. The wines are generally elegant, medium-bodied wines , but they can also be powerful and complex.
Typical growing regions include the French Burgundy, as well as Germany, Oregon, California and South Africa, all of which produce outstanding Pinot Noir. Styles range from fruit-forward and fresh to complex and mature, often refined through barrel ageing, which can contribute notes of vanilla or roasted coffee.
Pinot Noir offers a fine balance of fruit and acidity and is a versatile food pairing choice. It pairs well with poultry, mushroom dishes, white meat and mild cheese.
