With Cuvée Clive 2019, the South African heritage winery Graham Beck from the Western Cape impressively demonstrates what the Cape can achieve. The classic blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir brings pure elegance and youthful radiance, along with remarkable depth, to the glass. On the nose, this sparkling wine opens with extraordinary vibrancy, offering white peach, ripe pear, crisp Granny Smith apple and fresh lemon zest. Subtle, highly complex notes of toasted nuts, buttery brioche and delicate spices emerge just behind. On the palate, the cuvée is wonderfully taut and vibrant: pronounced acidity of 8.7 g/l and a lively pH of 3.09 meet a beautifully fine, creamy mousse. At a modest 12.49% ABV and with a perfectly balanced 5.4 g/l residual sugar, the palate remains crystal clear, with invigorating freshness and noble spice lingering exceptionally long. This exceptional Cap Classique is far too good for a casual toast and makes a superb partner for food.
