Kleinood
The South African Winery Kleinood is located in the remote and picturesque Bot River Region, where it has been run with dedication by Gerard de Villiers and his family since its founding in 2000. The Bot River Region is known for its cool breezes from the Atlantic, which create ideal conditions for growing grape varieties inspired by Mediterranean climates. This is reflected in wines of great elegance and freshness. Kleinood is committed to producing wines that reflect the region’s unique terroir and biodiversity.
Vineyard management follows sustainable principles to protect and nurture the natural environment. The winery focuses on producing quality wines that are authentic and expressive. A particular hallmark is its specialisation in the grape variety Shiraz.
The winery is especially known for its Tambourine Mountain Syrah, which captures the essence of the winery and the region. These wines are made thoughtfully and with respect for nature, resulting in distinctive quality that delights both connoisseurs and newcomers.
Translation missing: en.Tasting notes
The nose reveals inviting aromas of ripe cherry and juicy plum, accompanied by a delicate note of tobacco spice. On the palate, the wine is round and juicy, with soft, well-integrated tannins and pleasant freshness. The spicy notes add further depth, while the fruit-forward finish has a light peppery edge.

Shiraz, Cinsaut, Mourvèdre
This cuvée combines dark berry fruit and spice with floral and red-fruit accents. Shiraz and Mourvédre usually contribute significantly to colour, body and tannin structure : Blackberry, plum and peppery notes can blend with earthy, herbal nuances. Cinsaut often adds red berries and delicate floral notes, softens the fuller structure and lends a fresher fruit impression. The actual acidity depends greatly on the site and harvest time, however.
In the glass, the cuvée typically shows a ruby-red to deep dark-red colour. Depending on its origin and ageing, its style ranges from juicy and supple to dense, spicy and well-structured. Warm wine-growing regions such as southern France, South Africa and Australiaoffer points of reference, though the combination alone does not indicate a classic origin. Oak ageing can add further toasted notes and softer tannins. It pairs well with pan-fried or braised meat, as well as spicy vegetable dishes.
