Penfolds

Penfolds is a renowned Australian winery whose history began in 1844 . The founders, Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold, planted the first vines at Magill Estate near Adelaide. What began with fortified wines developed under the visionary leadership of Mary Penfold into one of South Australia’s largest wineries.

Penfolds’ philosophy is shaped by innovation and the pursuit of outstanding quality. A milestone was the creation of Penfolds Grange by its first chief winemaker, Max Schubert in the 1950s. Penfolds is known for its experimental approach and the art of blending, producing wines of great complexity and longevity.

Penfolds’ terroir spans several wine regions in South Australia, including the heartland Magill Estate – planted mainly with Shiraz. Other important growing areas include the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale for Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. This diversity enables Penfolds to produce wines with distinct regional character and impressive quality.
